Our Foundation in affiliation with Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi held the annual Talent Hunt show at Woodbridge Senior High School on March 3rd. On October 6th, our Foundation was a co-sponsor for the Action in the Community Through Service (ACTS) eight annual IWALK 5K Run/Walk and Family Festival held at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center, Woodbridge, Virginia. The IWALK attracted over 1,500 participant and was a huge success (raising over $100,000.00). The festival began immediately after the run/walk and consisted of games, face painting, food, health awareness, faith groups, fitness, martial arts demonstrations, music, and many other fun family activities. Our Foundation donated $1,000.00 in support of this event and co-manned an information booth with our affiliate the Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Each year in support of our affiliate Pi Lambda Lambda, the Foundation awards funding to the winners of the annual Omega Psi Phi Essay Contest. Winners of this year's contest were:
- Makala Crawford - 1st Place Woodbridge Senior HS ($500)
- Carlyn Fogarthy - 2nd Place Brooke Pointe HS ($300)
- Connor Merk - 3rd Place Colonial Forge HS ($200)
Jessica Terry - $3,000 Winner
In honor of Dr. George M. Hampton, we conducted a special scholarship fund raiser this year. Our goal was to raise $10,000.00 in support of our scholarship fund before Dr. Hampton’s ninetieth birthday in June of this year. We are happy to announce that we exceeded our goal within three months. Thanks to all who participated. To commemerate this event a reception was held in Dr. Hamptons honor at Vothern Virginia Community College at the Woodbride campus.
